Current and Predicted Water Levels

Here is the current water flow (measured in CFS on the right) at Raygold, just upstream of our put-in. The vertical line in the center of the image is the current time. To the left are actual flows recorded. To the right is the predicted trend. Many rivers are measured in Cubic Feet per Second (CFS). One cubic foot is almost the equivelent of one basketball, which means that, if the current measurement was "3,000 CFS" there would be 3,000 baskeballs floating by every second. That's a lot of water! We run trips up to 10,000 CFS. One of the best parts of rafting is that different flows often change the nature of rapids and how we run them, which means that no matter how many times you float the same stretch of river it is always different. A boatman's saying is "You can't float the same river twice." It's certainly true.
